Ossuary Depths
New Biome
“...the striking column formations give these caverns the appearance of a great cathedral, though the bones amassed here might suggest this place is more of a burial catacomb. In light of this possibility, as well as observed hostilities from local fauna, we urge company management to avoid this ‘boneyard’ for any future mining operations.”
-Excerpt from a report by the DRG Planetary Surveys Department
Welcome to the new biome, the Ossuary Depths. Until recently, this underground boneyard was considered too dangerous, but management has re-evaluated this assessment, and come to the conclusion that there’s profit to be made. This means you’ve been issued new work assignments in the home of the Ossirans - more on those in a moment.
Heavy Extraction
New Mission
Recent mining activities may have caused valuable Resinite Mass clusters to appear. Regardless of how it happened, R&D wants you to locate these, dig ‘em free, and ship them to the company with the provided laser-rocket-thrusters. Quite a sight to behold.
The Ossirans
New Enemy Classification
With the new biome comes new enemies. The Ossuary Depths is home to the Ossirans, an alien species that don’t take kindly to hard-working mining teams. So far, we’ve identified three different forms of Ossirans, the Scrab, the Pit Jaw and the Bone Collector.
Ossiran Scrab
These flying buggers will try to overwhelm you in large swarms, and may surface in great numbers if you get too close to their nests. They’ve got armored wings protecting their body, so they may take extra hits unless you hit them when flying.
Ossiran Pit Jaw
As if we didn’t already have enough dwarves getting caught by Leeches, we will now also have to look out for these monsters emerging from the ground, if a dwarf steps on them. Ouch!
We’ve also received reports that these have found their way into other biomes occasionally. The Company will be marking missions in those areas with “Pit Jaw Colony”. No excuse to be caught now, right?
OSSIUM RAID
Seasonal Event
The elusive Ossiran classified as the Bone Collector will, despite its name, not pose a threat to mining crews, but instead provide a lucrative opportunity. They’ve transformed bones into crystalline Ossium, a highly valuable material. The Company would like you to acquire these, but in order to find the caves where these are gathered, you’ll need to find a Bone Collector, that’ll flee if attacked, and lead you directly to its Ossium-filled lair.
